Hello, creative explorers! This May at BELLHAUS ABC Art School, we’re going on a colorful journey inspired by the fascinating life and art of Piet Mondrian — an artist who saw the world like no one else, turning everyday shapes and colours into stunning masterpieces.

Who Was Piet Mondrian?

Once upon a time in the Netherlands, in 1872, a boy named Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan (later known as Piet Mondrian) was born. From a young age, Piet loved to draw and paint, especially the natural world around him — trees, farms, and skies. But as he grew up, something magical happened.

Piet started to believe that art didn’t have to copy what we see exactly. Instead, he wanted to show the essence of things — the simplest parts that make everything beautiful. He began to peel away all the extra details and focus on the basics: straight lines, squares, rectangles, and the boldest colours you can imagine.

Mondrian’s Art: The Playground of Colours and Shapes

Have you ever seen paintings made only of red, blue, yellow squares, divided by thick black lines? Those were Piet’s masterpieces! He called this style “neoplasticism,” and it’s all about using the simplest pieces to make something completely new and exciting.
