    Focus & Activities

    Week 1

    Wed 2 September

    HANDS IN

Meet clay and meet Melody. “Who will you pour for?” Pinching, coiling and rolling — every child builds the body of their teapot. They get it wrong, we squash it back into a ball, and that is the lesson: clay forgives you.

    Week 2

    Wed 9 September

    THE SET GROWS

Lid, handle and feet. Then the cups — one for every person at their table. Scoring and joining, how thick is thick enough, and reading the clay with a thumb.

    Week 3

    Wed 16 September

    FINISH AND MARK

The last clay day. Milk jug and sugar bowl, then texture pressed in with lace, string and a thumbnail. Each child carves their own maker’s mark into the base — the way makers have signed work for thousands of years.

    Week 4

    Wed 23 September

    COLOUR

The pieces come back from the first firing — pale, hard and ringing. Ninety minutes of pure colour: glaze, pigment, brush, sponge and fingertip. How glaze hides, how it reveals, and why the kiln always has the last word.

    Week 5

    Wed 30 September

THE TABLE, AND THE FAMILY TEA

They paint the tray their set will live on. At quarter past three the doors open, the families come in, and each child pours a cup for the person they made it for.
